Propose a Solution to an Open Task

SHAREing invites eligible contributors to apply for Flexible Fund support to deliver solutions to approved open Tasks.

Open Tasks are activities that have been reviewed and approved by the SHAREing consortium and aligned with one of the programme’s Work Packages. If you have the expertise, capacity, and institutional eligibility to deliver one of these Tasks, you may submit a proposal to lead its implementation.

All funding is provided through the SHAREing Flexible Fund and must comply with UKRI funding rules and eligibility criteria.

Before You Apply

👉 Applicants must be based at an institution eligible to receive UKRI funding .
đź“… Application Deadlines
Proposals to deliver open tasks are reviewed quarterly.Current deadline: 23 March
All applicants must read the Flexible Fund Guidance before submitting a proposal.
Funding requests must align with UKRI rules on eligible costs, institutional requirements, and reporting expectations.
👉 Read the Flexible Fund Guidance

Proposals must clearly demonstrate:

  • Alignment with the objectives of the relevant Work Package
  • Clear deliverables and outcomes
  • Value for money and appropriate use of Flexible Funds
  • Capacity to deliver within the proposed timeframe

Assessment and Approval Process

All proposals are reviewed in line with SHAREing’s governance structure. Applications are assessed by the relevant Work Package leads and considered by the Consortium to ensure strategic alignment, feasibility, and compliance with funding requirements.

Final approval of Flexible Fund allocations rests with the programme’s leadership in accordance with UKRI funding conditions and institutional oversight.

Applicants may be contacted for clarification or refinement before a funding decision is made.

Who Can Apply?

Any eligible contributor may apply to deliver an approved open Task.

Where a Task was originally suggested by a community member, that individual or group may be given priority to lead its delivery. However, if no proposal is received within a reasonable timeframe, or if the proposal does not meet the required criteria, the Task may be opened more widely for competitive applications.

SHAREing encourages collaborative proposals across institutions where appropriate.

How to Apply

There are two submission routes available. You may either complete the Microsoft Form online, or download the proposal template and submit your application by email.

If submitting by email, please complete the template in full and send it as an attachment to shareing@durham.ac.uk.

Following review and approval, a funding agreement will be issued through the appropriate institutional processes. Successful applicants will be expected to provide progress updates and a short final report summarising outcomes and impact.
